To achieve a "mirror-like" or "polished" finish on concrete surfaces using a power trowel, it's essentially a process of continuously increasing physical density. This effect isn't achieved by adding chemicals, but rather by the power trowel blades applying high-intensity "compaction" and "friction" to the concrete surface at specific times.

The following is an advanced procedure for achieving a high-gloss finish:

1. Key Prerequisite: Concrete Mix Design

Slump: The recommended slump is 120mm-160mm. Too thin a slump will result in excessive paste and a dull gloss; too dry a slump will make it difficult to achieve a glossy finish.

Sand Ratio: Appropriately increasing the proportion of fine sand helps to improve the paste quality, providing sufficient "raw materials" for a high-gloss effect.

2. Step-by-Step Operation Process

First Stage: Float Pan Polishing (Preparation Stage)

When the concrete has initially set (footprint depth approximately 5mm), use a machine equipped with **float pans** for polishing.

Objective: To press down the coarse aggregate, bring the fine slurry to the surface, and completely eliminate surface waviness.

Technique: Maintain a low speed and work in tandem. At this stage, the goal is not gloss, but extreme smoothness.

Phase Two: Blade Pressing (Compacting Stage)

Remove the disc and replace it with finish blades.

Blade Angle: Initial angle set to 5° – 10°.

Operation: As the moisture on the concrete surface gradually disappears, apply a coat every 30-60 minutes. Slightly increase the blade angle for each coat.

Physical Principle: At this point, the blades act like an iron, using pressure to seal the capillaries on the concrete surface.

Phase Three: High-Speed ​​"Burnishing" (High-Gloss Development Stage)

This is the most crucial step in creating the gloss, typically performed when the concrete has hardened to the point where walking on it leaves almost no trace.
High Blade Angle: Adjust the blade angle to its maximum (usually 20° – 30°), maximizing the force on the rear ends of the blades.
High Rotation Speed: Increase the power trowel's rotation speed.
Burnishing Effect: High-speed friction generates localized heat, causing the surface cement paste to undergo intense physical densification. You will observe the surface instantly transform from matte to a dark "metallic" sheen.

3. Core Techniques for Achieving a High-Gloss Effect

**"Dry but Not Wet":** The final polishing must be done when the surface is free of visible water and in a semi-dry state. If the surface is too wet, it will only create streaks; if it is too dry, it will peel.
**Consistency of Overlapping Paths:** The overlap of each pass must be strictly consistent; otherwise, the gloss will appear patchy and uneven.
**Blade Condition:** Only brand-new or minimally worn high-quality steel blades must be used. Damaged or deformed blades will create scratches and ruin the mirror effect.

4. Auxiliary Methods: Sealing and Curing Agent (Bonus Point)

If a power trowel alone cannot achieve the desired shine, or if a long-lasting shine is desired:
After power troweling (or the following day), spray a lithium-based concrete sealing and curing agent.
The curing agent reacts with free calcium in the cement to form hard calcium silicate crystals.
Dry polishing with a power trowel equipped with **buffing pads** or a high-speed polisher can easily achieve a mirror-like finish.
